Today’s article commentary is a bit of a devotional, because no one knows how the human body works better than God, Himself.
This article is incredibly technical from a medical perspective, intended to be pondered by doctors and practitioners on the issue of cell repair mechanisms. However, one of the methods he mentions near the end of this paper, is a concept known as biophotonics. This is when the cells are found to be sending and receiving light-based signals to each other, and not even necessarily to the neighbouring cell, but to others not physically connected to the emitting cell.
An observation was made by a lab dissecting the optical nerve one time, and that observation is as follows:
“Similarly, a dissected optic nerve was found to radiate mitogenic radiation throughout the optic tract when the eye was exposed to sunlight (much of which is blocked by the glass — which, when blocked, Thomas Ott demonstrated could cause disease). These observations suggest the body is designed to utilize its mitogenic emitters to sustain life.”
EDIT March 26, 2024
In 2009, a paper was published that stated:
“A few studies have reported that cells use photons (from an endogenous source) as information carriers. This study finds that cells can have an influence on other cells even when separated with a glass barrier, thereby disabling molecule diffusion through the cell-containing medium.
As there were significant differences when separating the populations with glass or quartz, it is suggested that the cell populations use two (or more) frequencies for cellular information transfer, which influences at least energy uptake, cell division rate and growth correlation. Altogether the study strongly supports a cellular communication system, which is different from a molecule-receptor-based system and hints that photon-triggering is a fine tuning principle in cell chemistry.”

This reminded me of something Jesus said that is recorded in both Matthew and Luke.
Matthew 6:22-23Â The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. Â 23Â But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
A Midwestern Doctor, the author of the piece linked at the beginning of this article, had earlier noted that:
“Cells exposed to MGR would, in turn, radiate MGR in a process known as secondary MGR — which could significantly exceed the initial energy input they received. …. It may also explain some of the benefits that result from sunlight exposure.”
Sun exposure includes all bands of the lightwave spectrum from the visual to the ultraviolet to the infrared. For years, people were told to protect their skin from harmful UV rays, then we learned there were two types of UV rays and we wanted one but not the other. Now we have learned of the toxic nature of one of sunblock’s main ingredients, titanium dioxide, and told to be more sensible in how we expose ourselves to the sun so that we can synthesize vitamin D. But now there may be another reason we need the sun.
Incidentally, acronym MGR came from this observation:
“… in 1923, another researcher, Alexander Gurwitsch, discovered that living cells emitted faint emissions, which triggered other cells to enter divide (leading him to call it mitogenic radiation [MGR] as mitosis denotes when cells divide). Furthermore, he found that ordinary glass but not quartz glass blocked it, leading him to conclude that MGR was ultraviolet.”
Mercola wrote in one of his articles on Alzheimer’s:
“Getting sensible sun exposure on large portions of your body is also important, as NO is released into your bloodstream when sunlight hits your skin. Ultraviolet A and the near-infrared light spectrum both increase NO, so you’re getting that benefit from both ends of the light spectrum.”
NO is short for nitric oxide.
In a paper from Nutrients magazine, we read:
“Vitamin D is not only a vitamin, but also a prohormone that acts as an immunomodulator and plays a vital role in maintaining calcium and bone homeostasis. It can be obtained from ultraviolet (UV) B-dependent endogenous production and/or from diet and supplements. “
In Mercola’s article on Top Foods to Improve Your Vision, published last year, he said:
“Your macula — the part of your retina responsible for central vision — is protected by a yellow pigment made up of lutein, zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin. These compounds absorb light and protect your macula from blue light and ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun and other light sources”
It is currently common advice to protect your eyes from UV rays, but the truth may be closer to protecting your eyes from TOO MUCH exposure to UV rays. As noted in AMD’s article, too much exposure to the cells being tested for biophotonics caused problems, but just the right amount solved those same problems.
“The effect of MGR was much stronger if it was intermittent or pulsed. Too much of it being applied negated the effect and, in time, became counterproductive (this was a very easy threshold to pass). For example, light UV exposure simulated the growth of yeasts, while stronger UV exposure killed them.”
From the optical nerve test quoted earlier, and from what we know of sensible exposure to the sun, and from what we see Jesus saying in Scripture, it is reasonable to speculate that the optical nerve may grab UV light and then shunt it on to the rest of the body. Remember, I’ll requote:
“Similarly, a dissected optic nerve was found to radiate mitogenic radiation throughout the optic tract when the eye was exposed to sunlight (much of which is blocked by the glass — which, when blocked, Thomas Ott demonstrated could cause disease). These observations suggest the body is designed to utilize its mitogenic emitters to sustain life.”
There is a condition known as “sun sickness” suffered by coal miners and others who rarely if ever got any exposure to the sun for days, weeks or months at a time. The optical nerve’s behaviour observed above could be one of those reasons. I’ll add another speculation here: Could it be possible that the optical nerve takes the sun’s UV rays and in the shunting off to the rest of the body, provides the ultraviolet light the rest of the body uses in it’s cell signalling, or MGR as the researchers have dubbed it? Could it be possible that without some exposure to the sun’s UV rays, the eyes can’t replenish the body’s UV quotient, and illness can result?
Could this be part of the reason why it was discovered that patients in hospitals recovered faster when exposed to the sun than merely processing vitamin D? Could this be why some of my NHP textbooks told stories of medical retreats in the countryside where clients had regular sun exposure, always felt better than when they lived in the city?
In Matthew, Jesus was making His observation concerning where our focus should be, (hence the word “single” in the quoted passage) and that a misdirected focus is like the body devoid of light. In AMD’s article, he shares observations that were done in labs before modern tests came along, where it was noted that if the blood’s biophotonic emissions were almost non-existent, that was often a sign that cancer was now somewhere in the body, and that if the blood’s emissions were present and strong, there was little to no cancer in the body. He does note however, that injured cells don’t emit any photonic activity, so they would be “dark”.
We know that cancer tends to multiply quickly once it gets a solid foothold in a system of the body. A recent article on the dangers of estrogen therapy highlight how estrogen tells almost every cell in the body to divide, but progesterone tells them when to stop and if you have too much estrogen without enough progesterone, you can invite cancer, as the basic definition of cancer is the unhindered, prolific generation of new cell growth.
If we take the two observations together, then apply them to what Jesus was saying about focus in the context before these verses about light, we get a statement that one’s focus on where their treasure is will or won’t be healthy and can lead to life or death.
Elsewhere in Scripture, we are told:
1 Timothy 6:10Â For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
Cellular repair run amock is being called the root cause of many chronic diseases according to AMD, Mercola, and others. There are many causes for this, estrogen excess being a big one in today’s society. But this is a clear example of Creator God (see John 1:1-3) knowing how the human body works and using it as an example of how damaging chasing after material riches can be, and how beneficial chasing after heavenly riches can be.
Let’s look at the context of what Jesus was saying:
Matthew 6:19-24Â Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: Â 20Â But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: Â 21Â For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Â 22Â The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. Â 23Â But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! Â 24Â No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Remember that the word mammon here, refers to money. Many troubles come to those who chase after earthly riches just as cancer and improper cellular repair showed up in history whenever the body’s biophotonics went dark. God uses the natural to explain the spiritual and supernatural. He uses the physical to typify the mental/emotional/social.
Spiritually and socially, who and what are you chasing after? Where is your focus? Is it single or scattered in all directions? Something to ponder as you sit or walk outside the sun next time.
